Pizza Pets Manifesto

Fourteen years ago, Laszlo Hanyecz sent 10,000 Bitcoins to Jeremy Sturdivant for two Papa John’s pizzas.

Laszlo recalls, “I thought it would be cool to trade this open-source internet money for a real-world good. Food is a basic necessity; every geek understands pizza.”

This simple act made history as the first known use of Bitcoin to buy a physical good, celebrated annually on Bitcoin Pizza Day.

Laszlo couldn’t have predicted the value of those Bitcoins or that a protocol called Ordinals would later let people collect and inscribe art on satoshis from his famous transaction, even selling them in prestigious auction houses like Sotheby’s.

Inspired by Laszlo, we embrace the mantra: Just do cool stuff. You can’t connect the dots looking forward, only backward. Experimentation leads to discovery. One innovation leads to another.

We honor Laszlo with this manifesto on the fourteenth Bitcoin Pizza Day.

What is Pizza Pets?

Pizza Pets is the first fully on-chain Tamagotchi-style game on Bitcoin, built purely with recursion and no custom indexer or manual intervention. This immortal game will live on Bitcoin forever, but it can only be played once, with its outcome eternally recorded.

For those who grew up in the 90s, you’ll remember the first virtual pet, Tamagotchi. It was so popular that schools banned them. Teachers would confiscate them, resulting in the death of your virtual pet. This addictive game both captivated and traumatized an entire generation.

We are those traumatized kids, now grown up. Although Pizza Pets is inspired by our childhood game, it is not for kids. Real money is at stake.

How does it work?

Every Pet is unique. There are 11 types of pets with 6 stages of evolution. The state of your pet is tracked entirely on-chain in a master inscription. Dead pets are removed from the game and the collection, turning them from cherished collectibles into mere mementos.

It is up to you to feed and care for your Pet in order to make it to the final stage. You will need to pay fees to inscribe food and other items that affect your pet. If fees become prohibitive, specific items can help. Pets that survive the game will become immortals, prized by those who aim to collect them.

Not only must you care for your Pet, but you must also avoid events that could lead to its death. You will have many choices to make, and your choices will matter. The exact details of how the game is played will be revealed in due time.

This is not a game that will end in a week; it will be played over several months. Once your Pet dies, it can never come back to life. Once the game is finished, it can never be played again.

Airdrop

The largest portion of Pizza Pets will be airdropped to unlisted holders of Pizza Ninjas and MegaPunks; in an equal amount to each collector base.

The rest will be airdropped to partnered collections.
